What does water mean to you?
We are excited to announce that in 2021, Hmong Museum will be hosting the We Are Water exhibit. As part of the exhibit, we seeking stories the Hmong community experience with water. 12 stories will be highlighted as part of the exhibit.
Three categories of water stories to share
1. Share your personal experiences with fishing, swimming, canoeing or other water-related activities you enjoy.
2. Did your parents or grandparents share a folktale with you as a child that still haunts you today? We are seeking Hmong folktales, myths, legends, superstitions related to water. We want to capture these timeless stories passed down from one generation to the next for everyone to appreciate.
3. Lastly, we are seeking stories related to water issues in the Hmong community. What concerns do you have about water safety? We’ll be researching and highlighting important water topics related to the Hmong community. So let us know what you want to learn more about when it comes to water.
Why is this important?
One of the goals of the program is to strengthen the Hmong community’s relationship with water. Through sharing of personal experiences, Hmong folklore, and scientific research we hope to share new perspectives and increase the Hmong’s participation in water stewardship in Minnesota.
