Hmong Museum Announces Temporary Closure Amid Heightened ICE Activities in the Twin Cities
SAINT PAUL, Minn. (January 9, 2026) — The Hmong Museum, located within the Hmong Village Shopping Center, announces a temporary suspension of operations, effective immediately.
This difficult decision comes in response to the heightened presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities currently taking place across the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Our museum sits in the heart of a historically significant Hmong neighborhood, a community built by families who sought refuge from war and persecution. Today, that sense of sanctuary is under threat.
We are choosing to close our doors temporarily to prioritize the safety, dignity, and peace of mind of our staff, visitors, and the elders who frequent Hmong Village. We refuse to allow a space dedicated to cultural heritage to become a site of anxiety or a target for disruption during this dangerous time.
Moving Forward
The Hmong Museum remains steadfast in its mission. While our physical doors are closed, our commitment to telling the Hmong story is unchanged. We will monitor the situation closely and announce a reopening date as soon as we can ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.
We thank the public for their continued support and understanding during this somber moment in our shared history.
About Hmong Museum: The Hmong Museum is committed to deepening the connection and appreciation of Hmong American history and heritage through collaborative initiatives, educational programs, and intergenerational healing.
